Jadon sat inside her house and stared out the window, smiling happily. Her brother was walking around her, doing chores. He continually talked to her, but Jadon was too distracted by the nature behind the screen to pay attention. Suddenly, a hand was waving in front of her face.
Jay... Hey Jay! She heard her brother say, finally coming back inside their trailer. Jay, if you're going to sit and not pay attention to me anyways, you may as well go out for a while. Jadon hesitated, finally looking at her brother. She didn't want to leave him alone. She hated leaving him alone: he was going through a tough time right now, and he could use her to talk to right now. But she had been in this trailer with him for three days straight, and she needed to get out. Jay, I'll be fine. At that, Jadon finally smiled and nodded gratefully, and headed outside.
The day was gorgeous. The sun flew down on her bare shoulders and warmed her immediately. She let in a huge deep breath of fresh air and allowed the smile on her face to broaden. After a moment, she turned and walked back in the doors. She unzipped the cage and pulled out her snake, Lowry, allowing her to wrap around Jadon's arm. Then, Jadon left and began to walk aimlessly.
After about half an hour, she found herself walking in the park: A park that was completely greened, with bloomed trees and colorful flowers. Happily, Jadon slipped off her shoes and began to walk around in grass. After a moment, she dropped down in the green mattress of nature and stared up at the clouds. She adored nature: she was so at home in it. It inspired her.
Her snake moved around her, still mostly wrapped around her arm, but smelling Jadon's face with her tongue. Jadon laughed.
"Lowry." she laughed, knowing that her snake wouldn't bite her. She glanced back up at the clouds again as she stroked her snake's long body. [/blockquote] Word count 350

Alex was laying in his room staring up at his plain white ceiling. What a fun life he led. Sitting. Staring up. His house was so quiet with is parents working, working, working. Lately, it seems like all Alex wants is to be out of his house. The quiet kept him thinking. Thinking about Anna, Stephan, and everything that happened. Would the house be less quiet if his younger best friend and sister were still around? Alex kept pushing the thoughts from his mind. He was just glad they moved out of their old house in New York. That brought back way too many memories. At least they could start fresh in some new house. The only problem was it was so quiet. The silence could cut.
Alex couldn't take it anymore. He stood up and pulled on a plain grey shirt. The only place he could think of to go was the nearby park. Knowing his parents wouldn't care, Alex left with out letting them know where he was going. Alex needed some air. The car ride seemed to last forever. As soon as he got there, he took off his shoes and walked around in the grass. It felt so great. So calming. Kind of like the feeling of sand under his feet. The park was so beautiful at this time of year. The flowers were probably his favorite part. Fully bloomed. He smiled to himself.
Somehow, Alex always seemed to embarrass himself. Because he was carelessly walking around in the grass, he tripped over a girl's feet, landing on his knees. Alex could already tell he was blushing. "I, uh, I'm really sorry about that. I wasn't paying attention,"Alex glanced at the girl and realized she was holding a snake. word count; 294

Jadon was looking up at the clouds once more, somehow making the ambiguous shapes into a magical land inside her head. She smiled as a mystical night floated towards a castle, though it was about the side of his foot. His arm was about to consume the castle when suddenly Jadon felt a slight pressure around her ankles, and was slightly turned to the side as someone tripped over her. Lowry stirred slightly on her arm and looked towards the collision site. Jadon sat up and followed her snake's glance and found a boy around her age kneeling on the ground. She smiled happily as he blushed, not bothered at all by the fact that her ankle was slightly scraped up. It stung slightly, but she wasn't one to complain an incredible amount.
"That's quite alright." she said lightly, a cheerful smile still planted on her face. Lowry extended slightly towards this stranger, and Jadon took her other hand to restrain her. Without a hand to hold her weight, Jadon had to switch positions; sitting between both of her feet, her knees also on the ground now. She looked back up at the boy. She hadn't seen him around school before, but she was fairly positive that he was high school age. "I'm Jadon Marille." she said, holding out her hand to the new boy. Her snake was still moving slightly, but wasn't close enough to Alex to scare him... Unless he was afraid of snakes. Jadon sincerely hoped that he wasn't; she didn't want Lowry to cause problems. She hadn't met any guys in this town yet, and was glad to have a chance to talk to a boy other than her brother for once.
She studied the boy for a minute. He was fairly attractive, Jadon decided. Then again, it may only be the fact that she hadn't met a boy her age since she moved here. Either way, he wasn't bad looking. And she appreciated greatly that he had taken off his shoes to play in the grass. She pointed happily to his bare feet, a smile still on her face. "I think we may get along very well." she giggled. Jadon had a friendly disposition about her and treated many people that she had just met as though they were her very good friends. She was already incredibly comfortable with this boy, though it helped that they both seemed to appreciated the grass. Nature was incredibly important to Jadon, and anyone who appeared to share that interest was a friend of hers. [/blockquote] Word Choice 427

Alex was a little put off by what had happened. He just...fell? He landed pretty hard, and he couldn't help but noticed that he scratched the girl's ankles up a bit. Was he really that out of it? Alex sighed. It really surprised him when the girl replied with such a cheery tone. "Are you sure it's okay? I hit you pretty hard." Alex moved from the position he fell into to a criss-cross-applesauce. Alex was a bit taken back by the girl. She seemed so sweet. He smiled, looked down at her ankles, and bit his lip. Alex looked back up at her face when she introduced herself, "Hello Miss Jadon, I'm Alex," he replied as he stuck his hand into hers.
"I'm sorry we had to meet...this way," he continued gesturing at her ankles. Then he moved his gaze up to the snake in her hand. It was fairly intriguing. Alex didn't think he had actually ever seen a live snake before, other than the zoo that is. "How long have you had your snake?" Alex asked. Alex figured it was safe, if she was letting it wrap around her like that. He couldn't help but smile at it. It was fairly..cute.. in a way.
Alex moved his eyes from the snake to Jadon's face. She seemed about his age. First person he's met so far that was about his age. And Jadon was pretty too. He noticed the smile on her face and that she was pointing at his feet. Alex chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck, "It's one of my favorite feelings! Along with sand," Alex smiled brightly back at Jadon. Alex loved how this girl seemed so happy and comfortable him, even when he had met her in a kind of rude way. Jadon just seemed so down to Earth, and he hadn't met a girl like that in a long time. "Did you just come to the park to enjoy what a nice day it is?" He asked Jadon with the smile still planted on his face. word count; 345

A small amount of blood began to surface on the scrapes on her ankles. She frowned slightly, then shrugged. But she saw him glance down at her ankles, and she began to nod her head vigorously. "I'm fine. It's just a scratch." she reassured. She glanced behind her at her ankles again, then shrugged. It stung slightly, but it wasn't something to make a huge deal of. Plus, it wasn't as if this boy had tripped over her on purpose. It probably wasn't his first choice to fall over and display his clumsiness to the entire world. "I think I may just survive." she said with a friendly smile. She grasped his hand lightly and shook it twice, then let her hand drop by her knee. "Hello Alex." She said with child like enthusiasm. She was thrilled to meet new people. She also did not fail to notice that Alex was very polite; adding Miss in front of her name. She appreciated such a thing; it set him apart from the average crowd.
Jadon shook her head slowly. "I don't mind." she laughed, glanced back down at her ankles, then back up at Alex, her bright smile complimenting her words; "I'm glad that we did." She laughed. When Alex began to look at her snake, she followed his gaze and fixed her eyes on Lowry. She brought her free hand around and lightly stroked her snake's neck. "She's about two." Her snake's tongue was searching the air, studying Alex's scents, though she was about a foot from him. "Her name is Lowry." she laughed. After running her finger along the scales one more time, she dropped her hand and looked over to judge Alex's reaction. She was hoping that he wasn't afraid, and so far he wasn't appearing to be. He would be one of the first who wasn't weary of it. She had taken her snake many places; Lowry was her baby. And her harmless snake, the one who had never bit a human in her life, had brought some girls to tears, and created a bubble around her. Since Jadon found her inspiration and peace with nature, she never understood having a fear of animals.
"Mine too!" Jadon said, her enthusiasm not failing to show through in the slightest. "Nothing artificial can feel as great as textures created by nature can." her sentence may not have been perfectly coherent, but she was fairly sure that Alex could gather her point. "I think I may like sand slightly better though. I'm not sure..." She pondered the thought for a moment, until her thoughts were interrupted by a question. She nodded once and smiled; closing her eyes quickly with her nod. She opened them again but kept the large smile on her face. "I guess so, yeah. I've been in the house with my brother for a few days. But it's nice. And I'd love to get inspiration for my next painting. What about you?" Word Count 495

Alex could tell she wasn't extremely upset about the scratch. He couldn't help but feel guilty. "Okay. Whatever you say. Alex said, trying to let her know that he still felt a bad. Alex chuckled, "I don't know! You might bleed out! Then where would the world be?!" He smiled. Then it struck him, he hadn't been that sarcastic in a long time. It was fun, how he just opened up to her. It made him smiled the way she said 'Hello Alex', she sounded so... he couldn't put his finger on the word. Sweet came to mind, but he didn't think that was enough to describe it. It was something that he hadn't seen for a while. Up in New York, he didn't have many friends. Alex was too afraid to make them. But he did notice all of the drama and fighting, Jadon didn't seem anything like them. Not even close.
Alex didn't think about it that way. If he hadn't tripped over her ankles, they would have never met. He would have never opened up, or laughed like that. Alex smiled happily. "I'm glad too." Alex studied the snake that was crawling around Jadon's arm. "She's a really pretty snake. I haven't actually seen many snakes. It was true, though. He was pretty sure this was the first he's ever been this close to a snake. Snakes never really bothered him. But then again, he had never really had experience with them.
"It's so true! Like, soft carpet doesn't have the same affect as soft grass!" Alex said this with almost as much enthusiasm as Jadon. Sand. Alex loved the feeling more than anything. Grass was second, of course. "Sand definitely wins for me. It's just so soft. And with has such a brilliant view by the ocean." Alex closed his eyes and imagined he was at the beach right now. The ocean breeze moving his hair. He smiled. "Oh you paint? I always wished I were talented in that area. But guitar is more my thing." Alex took a second before answering the question. "I just needed out of the house. Just needed the cool breeze and flowers." word count; 361

After Alex's sarcastic comment, Jadon flipped her legs so that they were in front of her, grabbed her bleeding ankle in a mock panic, and held it up. "Oh no! What ever will I do now?!" She yelled dramatically, widening her eyes in fake fear. "Do I have enough time to get to a hospital?" Jadon was glad to have a conversation where she could be her light hearted self. She hadn't had many chances to joke around since she got here- she always had to focus on her brother. She didn't mine taking care of her brother, but she loved to feel as though she was free to act like a little kid. She didn't always like to have to be responsible. "Then again," she said with a laugh. "If the entire world is going into disarray simply because I'm gone, then we may need to find a more stable planet."
Jadon flashed Alex a dorky, childish smile that was so large that her eyes were forced shut. All of her teeth were exposed in her smile to show her pleasure that Alex was glad they had met. After a moment, she dropped the smile and contained a normal, soft one instead. She stroked Lowry with one finger and listened to Alex. "Really? I love snakes." she said, her voice calm. She glanced back down to Lowry, then inclined the arm with her snake on it towards the boy. "Do you want to hold her?" she offered. She knew that many people were afraid of snakes, but she didn't understand it. She got along with nature very well; she would never fear an animal, even when she may have had a reason to. "She's really tame." Jadon reassuring with a smile.
Jadon gave Alex one rapid nod in agreement. She loved the textures created by nature. There was nothing like it, and Alex seemed to agree. "Sand is so...." Halfway through her statement, Jadon stopped to search for the word, but it was difficult to find one to describe what she was trying to say. "I don't know..." She laughed. Why couldn't she think of that word?! "Maybe it just seems like a blank canvas, I guess. Like an etch-e-sketch!" she laughed. "I love painting." she answered his question. "I've never played guitar. I've been told I can sing fairly well, though." she laughed. "I'd love to hear you play sometime!" At the mention of flowers, Jadon looked around at all of the colors. "Flowers are nice." she laughed. [/blockquote] Word Count 419

Alex put on a fake look of concern. "We have to close that wound up! What if it gets an infection?!" He gasped. It was hard for his smile not to break through. "Jadon.. I just.. Don't know if you will be able to make it. I might start saying your goodbyes now. I'm so sorry." Alex said urgently like one of those doctors on the seriously dramatic doctor shows. Alex let the smile that was trying to break through his serious face out. This was great. He knew it was sad, but he hadn't been able to joke like that for a while. Nobody to do it with. "Good point, but I don't know. You seem like the kind of girl that would put the whole world into a deep depression if she were gone," Alex said with a warm smile. It was true though. Jadon was just so... sweet. It was really refreshing.
Alex laughed at Jadon's full smile. He flashed her his dorkiest smile too before they both died down to normal smiles. Alex bit his lip for a second when she asked if he wanted to hold her pet snake. Well, if she could hold her with no problems.. Why not? The hesitation left his expression and excitement replaced it. "Sure!" Alex said as he stuck out his hands. He wasn't exactly sure how to. Maybe if he just held her than the snake would do it's thing. "Do I just hold her in my hands?" He asked before taking hold of the snake. He wanted to make sure that he wouldn't bring any harm to her.
Alex waited to hear what Jadon had to say, but she couldn't finish. He smiled, thinking he knew what she meant. Then Jadon continued talking about how it was a big blank canvas. Alex laughed. "It really is like an etch-e-sketch! You walk on it, or it in it, and the waves always come by to wash it off again. It's always something new." He smiled. Beaches were kind of like a white board, or that was at least what he always thought of. You could 'write' whatever you wanted on it, and it was super easy to just have erased. So, in a way it was kind of like the sand on a beach. The water always comes up to erase it. Painting. How Alex always wished he could. "How about we make a deal. You hear me play guitar, and I get to see some of your paintings." Alex replied. Sounded like a fair deal to him. He smiled, "Flowers are gorgeous." word count; 435
