--THAT MORNING, something unexpected had been clawing at riley's door. the clock read 5:12 when riley woke up to a mysterious noise. "if it's those guys from school TPing our tree's again, they'll be dead by 7." she groaned, lazily getting up from her tiny bed. she turned the lights on as she passed them, lighting a way to the front door. she looked out the window, hoping to see seniors throwing eggs. nothing, but the noise was still there. she opened the door to a small black and white spotted cat. it was extremely fuzzy, and looked like a one-year-old. "hey, you. what're you doing out here at this time?" before riley could ask if it was hungry, it ran inside and onto the couch, obviously freezing. it meowed at her with big green eyes. riley could tell it was a girl somehow and turned the light on in the kitchen and poured some milk in a bowl, then set it on the ground. the cat got up, walked over there, and immediately drank all of it. "wow, do you have an owner, shiver?"

--SHIVER SLEPT with her for the rest of the night. when her dad came home in the morning, he wasn't surprised by the new pet. riley took animals in all the time, she just had to take care of them. after a few hours of reading and surfing the web. riley wanted to go to the library. she was their best customer because she checked out 4 books at once and brought them back, finished, two days later, just to check out more. she had a sudden urge to read about cats. she didn't care if it was fiction or fact, she wanted to read it. as she pulled a book off the shelf called Into the Wild and turned around, she ran into a blonde girl that was about her height and age. she dropped her book on the other girls toes and then fell backwards, hitting her head and elbow. "Oh, oh my gosh, I'm so sorry, I- I-" riley was already up, but clutching her elbow. "Sorry," repeated riley. she was smiling now, and slightly laughing.
